Understanding Your Right to an IEE

An Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE) is an evaluation of your child conducted by a qualified examiner who is not employed by the school district.

Parents have the right to request an IEE at public expense if they disagree with the results or recommendations of an evaluation conducted by their school district.

When an IEE is requested in writing, the school district must either agree to fund the IEE or file for a due process hearing to demonstrate that its own evaluation was appropriate.

An IEE is customized for your child and, when approved by the district, is provided at no direct cost to you.
